Poems from Alpha Centauri

By Jamie Beckwith

There once was a hexapod creature
Who had a distingushing feature
It looked awfully rude
This he/she non dude
Running foul of Hepesh, a manic Pel preacher

HAI-ku! (6)

The New Adventure
snatched furtively from the shelf.
Too broad and too deep.

HAI-ku! (5)

by Bob Davies

Mona Lisa smiles
with her sisters; Scaroth's selves
ripple time's waters.

Ancient reptiles slept.
Squatters sprouted overnight,
beds became mass graves.

HAI-ku! (4)

by Steven Sautter

No escape, white walls
These are your consequences
Champion of Time

The all-seeing eye
Gazes unblinking into
Your abysmal heart

The clown cannot stand
Smiles in the forever dark
Thus starts Ragnarok

Oh no! Did I blink?
The angel seems no closer
I thought I was bug-

Lost in the fire
My old trusty companion
Sonically bereft

Green spaghetti-ied head
Save the Jagaroth in style
Add matching cravat

It's an elephant!
In Television Centre!
Monoids too. Who cares.

HAI-ku! (3)

by Steven Sautter

The girl, brave and bold
Against the basement lurker
Grip of ice hot death

Fight against the change
Resisting evolution
I live in the Light

Swirling sands whip round
Implacable art deco,
Throwing hands at you

A clan of Clantons
Stand firm in the tumbleweeds
Does your tooth ache, Doc?

Pink and orange sky
The world breaks up around you
Animal embrace

HAI-ku (2)

by Leslie McMurtry

all bright eyes and hands,
he leads them to a wasteland.
ancient and gnarled trees

a cloud of white disdain,
temperamental Time Lord,
a guardian's safari.

crimson searchlights bi-
sect future suspended
barrage ballooner

HAI-ku! (1)

By Jamie Beckwith

Incongorous Box
just there in the cluttered yard
A legend is born

Za will bring fire
Orb has promised it to him
Soon Hur will be queen

CANNOT COMPREHEND
THIS STRANGE CREATURE BEFORE ME
EXTERMINATE IT!
